We have stayed at Dormy Inn Kanazawa in December three years in a row, from 2023. All three times there were six of us across three generations: my parents (the children’s grandparents) and our family of four (my wife and I and our two elementary-school children).
Before we went as three generations, the four of us had stayed there twice (December 2021 and July 2023). We liked it then, so we chose it again when we traveled with the grandparents.
It is a two-minute walk from Kanazawa Station and has a hot spring bath and free late-night ramen (yonaki soba). The whole family loves it, and when we go to Kanazawa, no other hotel even makes the shortlist.

After three stays
- A 2-minute walk from Kanazawa Station. After check-out you can leave your suitcases and move to the station right away.
- The open-air bath on the 14th floor is just the right size: not too small, not too big.
- Late-night ramen, ice cream after the bath and Yakult in the morning are free. The children look forward to the free manga.
- The lounge on the 1st floor went from free to paid. We go out to eat Kanazawa’s good food, so we don’t use it.

For Dormy Inn Kanazawa (6 people across three generations, 3 rooms, room only), we checked 7 sites on the same day for 12/24, 12/29 and 1/2. Expedia had the lowest total on 12/24 and 1/2, and JTB (a Japanese site) on 12/29 (about 1–5% below the second-cheapest site). For 12/8, 12/11 and 3/24, the sites were checked on different days, so we have not ranked them. Trip.com showed that it could not be booked for this group size. Dormy Inn Kanazawa price: JPY 81,030–116,040 for 6 people, 2 nights, three generations
All three times, we booked the no-cleaning consecutive-night plan (room only) on Rakuten Travel.

| December 2025 | Twin / 2 semi-double rooms | JPY 116,040 |
In 2025 it cost over JPY 30,000 more than the previous two times. We split the family of four into two rooms, and the price per adult per night for the twin room had also gone up compared with 2023.

Kids co-sleeping costs JPY 3,000 a night; from junior high school, the adult rate
All three times, the children co-slept without using a separate futon or bed, at JPY 3,000 per child per night.
Dormy Inn’s child rates are the same at every hotel (FAQ on the official website).
| Age / bedding | Price per child |
|---|---|
| Ages 0–2 | Free when co-sleeping |
| Age 3 to elementary school | JPY 3,000 per night when co-sleeping |
| From junior high school | Same as the adult rate |
| When using a separate futon or bed | Same as the adult rate |
Co-sleeping is limited to one child per bed.
Our older child has started junior high school, so from next time the adult rate will apply.
We used the no-cleaning consecutive-night plan (room only) all three times
We booked the “WECO consecutive-night plan (room only)” on Rakuten Travel. It is a plan for stays of 2 nights or more, only for guests who don’t need cleaning, and the room is not cleaned during the stay.
The consecutive-night plan now
On Rakuten Travel, the no-cleaning plan is now called “Consecutive-night plan (room only)” and can be booked for 2 to 3 nights (as of September 2026).
If you need cleaning, you can request it for JPY 1,500 per day. The deadline to request it is 11:00 a.m. according to the Rakuten plan description, and 1:00 p.m. according to the FAQ on the official website. If you change the dates or cancel part of the stay midway, the regular rate applies.
With the no-cleaning plan, towels used to be hung on the room’s door handle every day. Since March 2026, they are handed to guests who ask for them (notice on the official website).
Taxes paid separately at the hotel
At Dormy Inn Kanazawa, the bathing tax (JPY 150 per adult per night) is paid at check-in (hotel information).
There is also the Kanazawa City accommodation tax. The amount depends on the room rate per person per night, excluding meals, consumption tax and so on.
| Room rate per person per night (before tax) | Accommodation tax |
|---|---|
| Under JPY 5,000 | None |
| JPY 5,000 to under JPY 20,000 | JPY 200 |
| JPY 20,000 or more | JPY 500 |
The bathing tax and the accommodation tax are not included in the booking totals at the top of this article.
Before booking, we check whether Agoda or Rakuten Travel is cheaper. Prices differ by date and by booking site.

Where is Dormy Inn Kanazawa cheapest to book? Prices on 7 sites compared (by travel period)
We compared Rakuten Travel, which we used all three times, with Expedia, JTB, Trip.com, Rurubu Travel, Jalan and Ikkyu. In October 2026, we checked 7 sets of dates from December to March for 6 people across three generations, 3 rooms (a twin for the grandparents and 2 semi-double rooms) and 2 nights. We entered the first-year junior-high-school child as an adult, following the hotel’s categories, and for sites whose totals did not include the co-sleeping elementary-school child’s fee (JPY 3,000 per night), we added that amount before comparing. For room only, the cheapest was Expedia on 12/24 and 1/2, and JTB on 12/29 (dates checked on the same day). For 12/8, 12/11 and 3/24, the sites were checked on different days, so we have not ranked them. On the dates checked on the same day, Rakuten Travel was the most expensive.

Dormy Inn Kanazawa rooms: separate from the grandparents, shower only
We take a separate room from the grandparents. With separate toilets and baths, nobody has to worry about the others.
We talked it over: “Kids making noise at bedtime, waiting for the toilet, changing clothes — we’d all have to worry about those.” The grandparents agreed.
How we split rooms on three-generation trips is explained in Three-generation trips with grandparents and grandchildren: destinations and how we choose rooms (in Japanese).
How we split the rooms for 6 people
- December 2023
Grandparents (2): 1 twin
2 adults + 2 children: 1 Japanese-style room - December 2024
Grandparents (2): 1 twin with sofa bed
2 adults + 2 children: 1 twin - December 2025
Grandparents (2): 1 twin
Family of four: 2 semi-double rooms
1 adult + 1 child in each room
| Room (name on the booking) | Size and beds |
|---|---|
| Twin | 21.9 m², two 100 cm-wide beds |
| Twin with sofa bed | 25.5 m², two 100 cm-wide beds and a sofa bed |
| Semi-double | 13 m², one 125 cm-wide bed |
| Japanese-style room | Size not shown on our confirmation (the current Japanese-style rooms on the official website are Japanese-Western rooms of 25 m² and 30 m²) |

In 2025 we split the family of four into two rooms
Why we used two rooms
As I remember, it was only about JPY 1,000 more than one room. With two rooms, there is more space even with co-sleeping. The children getting bigger was another reason.
From our booking confirmations, we can compare the grandparents’ twin with our semi-double rooms.
| Day | How much more the semi-double cost |
|---|---|
| Friday | JPY 1,620 |
| Saturday | JPY 720 |
The twin price is for 2 adults; the semi-double price is for 1 adult and 1 child. This is different from an estimate for putting the family of four in one twin room.
For a soak in a bathtub, use the 14th-floor bath
The twin rooms, the twin with sofa bed and the semi-double rooms have a shower booth without a bathtub (Rakuten Travel room descriptions).
In Rakuten’s descriptions, only the 30 m² Japanese-Western room had a bathtub. To soak in hot water, use the large bath on the 14th floor.
What’s in the room
The rooms have a hair dryer, a fridge, an electric kettle, loungewear and more. Toothbrushes and shampoo are provided too (official website). There is also loungewear and slippers for children; sizes differ by hotel (FAQ on the official website).
2 minutes’ walk from Kanazawa Station: leave your bags after check-out and go straight to the station
We really like how close it is to the station. The hotel is about a 2-minute walk from the East Exit of Kanazawa Station. The official website says that on rainy days you can spend less time under an umbrella by walking through the shopping complex in front of the station.

You can leave your suitcases after check-out, and on the way home it is a short walk to Kanazawa Station.
Check-out is at 11:00; luggage can be stored for the same day
Check-in is at 15:00 and check-out at 11:00 (official website; may vary by plan). After check-out, the hotel will keep your luggage for the rest of the day.
Shinkansen to Kanazawa, then a rental car: we parked at an open-air lot cheaper than the hotel’s
We go to Kanazawa by Shinkansen. It is one direct train, so it is an easy place to take the grandparents. We rent a car after arriving in Kanazawa.
We parked the rental car not at the hotel car park but at an open-air lot nearby. It was cheaper, under JPY 1,000 a day (from memory, a rough figure).
When we go out by rental car
- I go to the car park alone
to get the car - We meet in front of the hotel
and the other five get in
The other five don’t have to walk to the car park.
The hotel car park
The hotel car park is a tower-type multi-level car park, JPY 1,500 per night, first come, first served.
There are spaces for regular cars up to 1.55 m high and for high-roof cars up to 2.1 m. When it is full, the hotel directs you to a car park nearby (official website, September 2026).
Dormy Inn Kanazawa vs Onyado Nono Kanazawa: we compared them and chose Dormy Inn for the station
We once compared it with Onyado Nono Kanazawa, a hotel from the same group. But we did not find it attractive enough to give up being close to the station.
| Comparison | Dormy Inn Kanazawa | Onyado Nono Kanazawa |
|---|---|---|
| From Kanazawa Station | About 2 min walk from the East Exit | About 16 min walk (about 1 min walk from the Musashigatsuji / Omicho Market bus stop) |
| Opened | 2006 (renovated July 2023) | 2021 |
| Late-night ramen Ice cream after the bath Lactic acid drink | Yes | Yes |
| Parking | Tower type, JPY 1,500 per night | Mechanical, JPY 1,500 per night |
| Our family | Stayed 3 times | Only compared (have not stayed) |
Both have the free late-night ramen and ice cream. For our family, the difference was the distance from the station.
Dormy Inn Kanazawa onsen: the 14th-floor open-air bath is just the right size
On the top floor, the 14th, there are separate men’s and women’s natural hot spring baths. The baths are called “Kaga no Yusen.”
The hotel’s official name is also “Natural Hot Spring Kaga no Yusen Dormy Inn Kanazawa” (official website).
The open-air bath on the top floor is our favorite. Being able to soak in a hot spring at a hotel two minutes from the station is a big plus. It feels just the right size: not too small, not too big.
My father loves hot springs. With a large bath, his grandchild goes in with him and scrubs his back. The grandparents don’t like saunas.
| Where | 14th floor (separate for men and women) |
|---|---|
| Hours | 15:00 to 10:00 the next morning (the sauna is closed 1:00–5:00) |
| Water | Natural hot spring (sodium chloride spring) |
| Baths | Indoor bath, lying bath, open-air bath, cold bath |
| Sauna | Dry sauna with auto löyly |
Bathing with young children
Children may go into the bath of the opposite sex with a parent up to age 6, in principle. If the local government where the hotel is located sets an age by ordinance, that rule applies (FAQ on the Dormy Inn official website).
Free late-night ramen (yonaki soba) every stay: ice cream after the bath and morning Yakult are free too
| Ice cream after the bath | 15:00–25:00 (14th floor, rest area after the bath) |
|---|---|
| Late-night ramen (yonaki soba) | 21:30–23:00 (1st floor, CAFÉ&LOUNGE OASIS) |
| Lactic acid drink | 5:00–10:00 (14th floor, rest area after the bath) |
Late-night ramen (yonaki soba)
We eat the late-night ramen every time we stay. The smell of the nori and the soy sauce flavor are delicious, and we have even gone back for seconds. The official website describes it as “a light soy sauce ramen.”

Ingredients of the late-night ramen
The soup is made with chicken and pork, and the noodles with wheat flour and egg (official website).
Ice cream after the bath
The ice cream after the bath is just the right size. There are several flavors, and we have tried them all.
Morning Yakult
The morning Yakult is great too. On the official website it is called the “after-bath lactic acid drink service.”
Free manga
The children look forward to the free manga. The manga corner is in the rest area on the 14th floor (official website).
Dormy Inn Kanazawa breakfast: we skip it and eat Hakusan Soba at Kanazawa Station or wherever we go
The highlight of the Dormy Inn Kanazawa breakfast is the all-you-can-eat seafood. As Kanazawa specialties, there is a build-your-own seafood rice bowl and Hanton rice (official website).

| Where | 1st floor, CAFÉ&LOUNGE OASIS |
|---|---|
| Hours | 6:30–9:30 (last entry 9:00) |
| Adults | JPY 2,500 per person |
| Children | Age 3 to elementary school: JPY 1,200 per person Age 2 and under: free |
| For 6 people | 4 adults + 2 elementary-school children: JPY 12,400 per breakfast |
On earlier stays, we also ate the hotel breakfast. Now we skip it and eat out, because Kanazawa has many good seafood restaurants.
When we travel, eating the local food matters a lot to us. All three times, we booked room-only plans.
Hakusan Soba at Kanazawa Station
For breakfast, we eat wherever we go that day, or at Hakusan Soba, the soba stand in Kanazawa Station. Hakusan Soba is fantastic, and the white shrimp soba is delicious.
The shop’s official name is “Kaga Hakusan Soba,” and it is inside Kanazawa Hyakubangai Rinto at Kanazawa Station. It opens at 6:00 a.m. (Kanazawa Hyakubangai official website, September 2026).

Dormy Inn Kanazawa lounge: it went from free to paid, and we stopped using it
When the four of us stayed, the 1st-floor lounge offered free snacks such as corn dogs and fries, and free drinks including alcohol. Now it is paid. Rakuten Travel also has plans that include free-flow drinks at the lounge (September 2026).

| Where | 1st floor, CAFÉ&LOUNGE OASIS |
|---|---|
| Hours | 17:00–21:00 (last order 20:30) |
| Price | Adults JPY 1,500, children JPY 750 |
| Member benefit | Free for Dormy’s Gold members |
| Drinks | Beer, highballs, soft drinks and more |
| Snacks | Bar snacks such as fries |
We haven’t used it since it became paid
It was a shame that it became paid, but it made no difference to our family. In Kanazawa we go out for sushi and other good food.

If we came back early for the lounge hours, we would miss out on Kanazawa’s good food. Even when it was free, that felt like a waste. We are not big drinkers, either.
When we stay as three generations, we don’t choose the plans with free-flow drinks at the lounge either. A dessert buffet is something the grandparents and grandchildren can all enjoy together, more than free-flow alcohol (I explain why in Three-generation trips with grandparents and grandchildren: destinations and how we choose rooms (in Japanese)).
For our family, the late-night ramen, the ice cream and the Yakult matter more.
Summary: the whole family loves Dormy Inn Kanazawa, and no other hotel makes the shortlist
Dormy Inn Kanazawa is a 2-minute walk from the station and has a hot spring bath and late-night ramen. The children look forward to the free manga, and the whole family loves it. In my parents’ words: “Kanazawa is lovely no matter how many times we go.”
From junior high school, children pay the adult rate. I thought we might have to consider other hotels. But because the whole family loves it, for now no other hotel is on the shortlist.
