In July 2025 we took a 5-night, 6-day trip to Okinawa as eight people across three generations: both sets of grandparents (my side and my wife’s), my wife and I, and our two elementary-school children.
For the first three nights we stayed at Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa in Urasoe, and for the last two at Hyatt Regency Naha, Okinawa.
We booked AlaCOOJU on Agoda as a package with flights and a rental car, and the Hyatt on Agoda as hotel only. Both included breakfast. We got around in an 8-seater rental car. The grandparents liked both hotels, and we were glad we stayed at each.
Comparison 1: location and access
- Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa (Urasoe): about 25 minutes by car from Naha Airport (according to the hotel’s official information). San-A Urasoe Nishikaigan PARCO CITY is nearby and handy for shopping and meals; in the evening we went to a steak restaurant there.
- Hyatt Regency Naha, Okinawa: in central Naha near Kokusai-dori, within walking distance of Makishi Station on the monorail.

Comparison 2: rooms and facilities
| How we booked | Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa | Hyatt Regency Naha |
|---|---|---|
| Number of rooms | 3 rooms on the same floor | 3 twin rooms |
| Us (2 adults + 2 kids) | Corner Deluxe Twin (52 m²) 4 beds | City-view twin (28 m²) 2 semi-double beds; the 2 kids shared beds with us |
| Grand- parents (2 couples) | One Ocean Deluxe Window Seat room (36 m²) each The grandparents’ two rooms were next to each other | One twin room each |
Rooms at Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa
For our family of four we booked a large room, since all eight of us would gather there. We brought chairs from the grandparents’ rooms and spent time together. Even with eight people in one room, it did not feel cramped.
The bathroom had the bathtub and a separate washing area, which was easy to use for the children and grandparents. The grandparents relaxed on the window bench looking out at the sea.
Rooms at Hyatt Regency Naha
Compact but with a high-quality interior that felt luxurious. However, the toilet and bathtub are in the same space, which felt a little inconvenient for bathing with the children and for the grandparents.

The wheelchair we borrowed at the Hyatt
At the Hyatt, we asked at the front desk and borrowed a wheelchair. What we appreciated was being allowed to use it outside the hotel. We took it to Kokusai-dori, an izakaya, and Okinawa World the next day.
The grandmother can walk. But with a wheelchair she could save her energy. It was also heartwarming to see the grandchildren enjoying pushing it.
Using the wheelchair outside the hotel
Check with the hotel before booking whether you can take it outside.

Comparison 3: breakfast
Breakfast at Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa
A good balance of Japanese and Western dishes, hard to get tired of even over three days. Days 1 and 3 felt somewhat similar, but we had no complaints.
The kids’ favorite was the automatic pancake machine. They had fun with it, and the mornings started with smiles.
Breakfast at Hyatt Regency Naha
There was smoked salmon, prosciutto and cheese, and plenty of more elaborate dishes such as eggs Benedict and French toast.
The three daily smoothies were delicious too. There were many dressings and jams, and the balance of Japanese and Western choices was very satisfying. There was so much that we could not try everything in two days.

Hyatt breakfast prices and hours
| Who | Price posted in the hotel |
|---|---|
| Adults | JPY 2,860 |
| Children (6–12) | JPY 1,430 |
| Ages 4–5 | Free, up to one per adult; additional children at the child rate |
| 3 and under | Free |
Hours were 7:00–10:00. The notice said “It may be crowded from 8:30 to 9:30.”

Comparison 4: pools and families with kids
The pool at Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa
The outdoor pool is next to the breakfast room and looks out over the sea. It is compact — just the right size for playing with the kids. We could start playing in the water right after breakfast and went in almost every day of our stay.
The ones who swam in the morning were the kids and my wife and I. The grandparents rested after breakfast.
The Hyatt pool and free rentals
We could borrow swimsuits, goggles, floats and towels for free, so we enjoyed the pool empty-handed. The rental desk is in front of the changing rooms in the pool area, and you can return the swimsuits wet.
No washing swimsuits or carrying them home wet, so we enjoyed the pool until the end on check-out day too. There is a jet bath right next to it to warm up when you get cold. We could use it easily between outings.
The grandparents in the pool
The grandparents, who usually never go in a pool, joined in, saying “Well then, let’s go in.”
The grandmother, who had bad knees and found walking hard, could walk without pain in the pool. Having a lovely time with her grandchildren is what stays with us.

Pool hours
| Hotel | Outdoor pool hours / closed season |
|---|---|
| Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa | July–September: 9:00–20:00 April–June and October: 9:00–18:00 |
| Hyatt Regency Naha | 9:00–20:00 (last entry 19:00) Closed December–February |
The Hyatt’s posted information said the jet bath is open all year. There is no large communal bath.

Comparison 5: value for money
| Price | Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa | Hyatt Regency Naha |
|---|---|---|
| 3 rooms (with breakfast) | Included in a package price with flights and a rental car | JPY 213,528 for 2 nights (tax and service included, paid at check-in) |
| Per adult | Hotel-only amount not available | About JPY 35,600 for 2 nights About JPY 17,800 per night |
| Rooms booked | 1 Corner Deluxe Twin (52 m²) 2 Ocean Deluxe Window Seat (36 m²) | 3 city-view twins (2 semi-double beds, 28 m²) |
| Kids sharing beds | Booked on the condition that it was free | Booked on the condition that it was free |
| Parking | Hotel parking: JPY 1,500 per night | Hotel car park full; nearby coin parking: JPY 1,100 for 24 hours |
The Hyatt price is the total for three rooms on our July 2025 booking confirmation. The two children shared beds and paid nothing, so the per-adult figure is divided by six adults. AlaCOOJU was booked as a package with flights and a rental car, so we cannot give a hotel-only price. The cost of the whole trip is in our Okinawa trip costs article (in Japanese, linked below).

Nearby parking suggested by the Hyatt
At check-in we were given a map and price list of coin parking lots nearby. We parked at one that charged JPY 1,100 for 24 hours.
Hotel parking and nearby parking
According to the hotel’s information (updated May 2026), there is a multi-level car park in front of the hotel at JPY 1,500 per night for guests. It is first come, first served; when it is full, or for large vehicles, guests are directed to nearby coin parking.
It was full when we arrived, so we used a nearby coin parking lot.
Pick-up and drop-off when using nearby parking
Arriving at the hotel
- At the drop-off area
the family gets out - Only I, the driver,
go to park the car
Going out from the hotel
- The family
waits in the lobby - I go to the parking lot
to get the car - At the drop-off area
the family gets in
While using nearby parking, the driver walks there and back every time.

Where to stay in Okinawa? We split our stay: 3 nights in Urasoe, 2 in Naha
Instead of choosing one hotel, we stayed in Urasoe for the first half and switched to Naha for the second.
How we split 5 nights and 6 days
- 3 nights at Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa
morning pool, Ryukyu glass workshop, Ikei Beach - Day we moved hotels
Sefa-utaki, Tamaya Soba - 2 nights at Hyatt Regency Naha
Okinawa World, Kokusai-dori
What we liked about each stay
- Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa: all eight of us could gather in a large room, and we could enjoy the pool right after breakfast.
- Hyatt Regency Naha: easy to get out to Kokusai-dori, and thanks to the free swimsuit rental, the grandparents went in the pool too.
When choosing hotels, what mattered to us was that they were reasonably nice and that it was easy to take the grandparents to sights by rental car. This time, going out to the east side of Okinawa — Sefa-utaki and Ikei Island — felt fresh.
If you choose just one: for a trip where the family wants to relax, Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa. If convenience as a sightseeing base matters most, Hyatt Regency Naha, Okinawa.
Check availability and prices at both hotels — we booked both on Agoda
