In June 2022, five of us across three generations stayed three nights in a Gold Suite at Lequ Okinawa Chatan Spa & Resort: the children’s grandparents on my side, me, and our two elementary-school children. My wife could not come on this trip.

The in-room pool became our family’s best memory

We chose this hotel because the room had its own pool.

Four years later, our children still say “I want to stay there again.” Of all our family trips, it is the one they remember most.

The following year, in July 2023, we stayed there again as a family of four, this time with my wife. That time we took a twin room.

Why we chose the Gold Suite: without my wife, watching two kids at the beach was hard

My wife could not come on this trip. The adults were me and the two grandparents.

Without my wife, there was no one I could fully hand the children over to. Watching both children at the same time at the beach was especially hard.

Changing clothes was another problem. I could not change together with my daughter, so I had to wait outside. She was old enough to change by herself, so we managed.

I thought a pool in the room would make it easier to keep an eye on the children. That is why I looked for a room with its own pool.

The private pool has a roof: the Gold Suite is on the 6th floor, under the 7th

According to the official site, the private pool is on the terrace, outdoors. But it had a roof.

The “roof” is the floor of the level above. The Gold Suite is on the 6th floor, directly below the 7th. The terrace was fully covered by the 7th floor.

The floors are from the official site; the roof is from our own stay. We have not stayed in the Diamond Suite.

Thanks to the roof, we were out of direct sunlight.

We also used the pool on a day that looked like rain. It was drizzling at the time.

Pool water temperature and the in-room hot spring: fine in June, heated October to March

Water temperature by season

The official room page says the pool is not heated, and depending on the season the water may be too cold for swimming. From October to March it can be used as a heated pool, but in winter the water may not get warm enough because of the outside temperature.

The water in June

In June 2022 the temperature was no problem at all. The children went in at least three times a day.

When the pool got chilly, the in-room hot spring

Every bathroom in the Premier Building has natural hot-spring water. When the children got cold in the pool, they warmed up in the room’s hot-spring bath.

Only a glass window between the living room and the pool: the grandparents watched from the cool room

The pool and the room are separated by a single glass window.

So the grandparents could watch the children playing in the pool from inside the cool room.

A chair in the Gold Suite with a glass window behind it and the pool beyond
Beyond the chair is the glass window, and beyond that the pool

The grandparents did not have to stay out in the hot sun, and could step into the cool room whenever they got too warm. They could see the children through the glass, so the family was never split up the way it is when someone rests in a separate room.

How the children and grandparents spent their time

  • Two children
    Played in the room’s pool
Warmed up in the room’s hot spring
  • Two grandparents
Watched from inside through the glass
Stayed in the cool room when it got hot

Gold Suite beds: two beds and futons for five people across three generations

  • The two grandparents slept in two beds
  • The children and I slept on futons laid out on the floor

There was also a bed in the living room (on the right of the TV photo under “2022 vs after the renovation” below). The current official listing says the beds are two 160 cm wide and three 90 cm wide.

According to the official site, the Gold Suite holds 1–5 adults (not counting children sharing beds) and is 177.5–182.2 m² including the terrace. We were three adults and two elementary-school children, so we fit within that.

All four suites have different layouts

The official site says each of the four suites has a different layout and you cannot request a specific one. How we slept above is from 2022.

Washer-dryer and kitchenette: five people’s swimsuits and towels washed overnight

This room has a washer-dryer. The official list of room equipment also includes a “fully automatic washer-dryer.”

We put all the laundry in before going to bed. It made the next day much easier.

  • A swim in the pool means swimsuits and towels for five
  • We went to the beach too, so there was even more
  • Wash and dry everything overnight, and it is ready to use the next day
  • As a result, we could pack fewer clothes

Kitchenette

We used it a little to cut fruit.

This room has a covered pool, a natural hot-spring bath, a kitchenette and a washer-dryer. You could spend the whole day without going out.

2022 vs after the renovation: barrel sauna and TV

We stayed in June 2022. The Premier Building has been renovated since.

Barrel saunaNoAn official notice (April 21, 2026) says barrel saunas were newly installed in all four Gold Suites

Renovated on July 12, 2025

What the official site and booking sites show now may differ from 2022. The barrel sauna was installed after our stay, so we have not used it.

By the way, I don’t think saunas are a big draw for our three generations. The grandparents don’t like saunas, and the children can’t stay in long. That was our experience at other hotels (Dormy Inn in Kanazawa and Yusa in Yamagata). This is just our family.

What our Gold Suite stay cost: JPY 423,700 for five people, 3 nights, flights included

These are the actual amounts on our itinerary.

DatesJune 2022, 3 nights / 4 days
Guests / room5 people, 1 room (3 adults, 2 children) / Gold Suite, non-smoking, 1 room
PlanBreakfast included, children 18 and under share beds free, “enjoy the popular Chatan area”

TotalJPY 423,700 (adults JPY 120,380 × 3 + children JPY 31,280 × 2)

A package total

JPY 423,700 is the total for a package of flights, rental car and three nights at the hotel. The hotel part cannot be separated out, so this record does not tell you how much the room costs per night.

On the itinerary we landed at Naha Airport at 17:30, picked up the rental car at 18:00, and were due at the hotel at 19:00. If you want to use the pool on the first day, check your arrival time too.

Breakfast: where, when and how much — from the Premier Building to the Main Building 2nd floor

In 2022 our plan included breakfast. The hotel breakfast was good.

What bothered us in 2022 was where breakfast was served. The Gold Suite is in the Premier Building, but we had to walk to the Main Building for breakfast. I wished we could have had breakfast inside the Premier Building.

Breakfast venue and prices now

The official breakfast page, checked on September 28, 2026, still lists the venue as the lounge on the 2nd floor of the Main Building.

Hours7:00–10:30 (last food served 10:00)
Breakfast for guestsAdults JPY 2,200 / ages 6–12 JPY 1,100 / 5 and under free
Children sharing bedsBreakfast for ages 6 and up is not included in the room rate; pay separately at check-in

The “Chatan Onsen” communal bath: worth going even with a hot spring in the room

The Gold Suite’s own bath also has natural hot-spring water. We went to the large communal bath as well, and it was very good.

According to the official site, the communal bath uses “Chatan Onsen,” natural hot-spring water drawn from 1,400 m underground, which is rare on the main island of Okinawa (official: Chatan Onsen natural hot-spring bath, in Japanese).

  • Location: 8th floor of the Main Building. Free for guests
  • Hours: 6:00–10:00 (last entry 9:30) / 15:00–1:00 (last entry 0:30)
  • Men’s bath: dry sauna and cold plunge. Women’s bath: mist sauna and plain hot-water bath
  • Bath towels, face towels and shampoo are provided. Bring the small wash towel from your room
  • With a parent, boys may enter the women’s bath and girls the men’s bath up to age 5

Lobby service

After the bath, I think we got ice cream and coffee near the front desk. The current official site says welcome drinks, welcome food and welcome ice pops are served in the 1st-floor lobby from 14:00 to 21:00 (official: facilities and services, in Japanese).

Close to American Village: the beach and dinner outside the hotel

The hotel is close to the sea and to places to eat. From our room we could see American Village lit up at night.

Parking: now free, in the multi-level car park next to the hotel

We parked the rental car in the car park in the building next to the hotel. It was easy to park.

As of September 28, 2026, the official site says parking is free. When we stayed, I remember it being about JPY 1,000 a day.

  • 250 spaces, first come first served (no reservations)
  • Height limit 2.1 m
  • When full, use coin parking nearby

The official site asks guests to look at the parking map before arriving, because there are many one-way streets around the entrance.

2023: three nights in a twin room as a family of four, JPY 235,250 through JTB

In July 2023 we stayed three nights at Lequ Okinawa Chatan again. This time it was the four of us, with my wife. We took a twin room without meals and got around by rental car.

We didn’t book a room with a pool because it was the summer holidays. Rooms with a pool were out of our budget.

Why we chose Lequ Okinawa Chatan again

My wife had missed the first trip, but the hotel was so good that I wanted to come back. The children wanted to as well.

  • Close to the sea
  • Close to places to eat
  • The yakiniku (Japanese barbecue) was delicious
  • Easy to get to from the airport

Comparing with 2022

Both trips were 3 nights / 4 days, but the season, number of people, room, meals and rental car were all different. The difference in the totals is not the price difference between the rooms.

Chatan Park swimming pool: a giant tipping bucket and a 50 m pool

We also went to the Chatan Park swimming pool, near American Village and right next to Sunset Beach. It has a 50 m pool and a children’s pool. The children’s pool has a play structure where a giant bucket tips water down on you.

Opening information from the Chatan Town Tourism Association (checked September 28, 2026):

The room our children want to go back to is the Gold Suite

A trip spent in the room, and a trip spent going out

  • June 2022, Gold Suite
    Five, three generations
    Mostly in the room’s pool
  • July 2023, twin
    Family of four
Sightseeing and beaches by rental car
Used the hotel’s rooftop pool too

The room our children say they want to stay in now is the Gold Suite. Four years later, they still say it.

I chose that room to deal with how hard it was to watch two children at the beach, and with waiting outside while my daughter changed. It has become our family’s best memory.

When we went back to Okinawa in July 2025, we were eight people across three generations, and we stayed at hotels in Urasoe and Naha. We wrote about those two hotels here:
