In July 2025 we traveled to Okinawa as eight people across three generations: the grandparents, my wife and I, and our two elementary-school children. For the first three nights we stayed at Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa in Urasoe, and for the last two at Hyatt Regency Naha, Okinawa.

This article covers our two nights at the Hyatt: the rooms, breakfast, the pool, parking, and borrowing a wheelchair for the children’s grandmother.

Hyatt Regency Naha review: two nights with three generations, eight people

The grandparents liked it too. It suits three-generation families who stay in Naha and go sightseeing by car.

Hyatt Regency Naha rooms: city-view twin, 28 m²

The four of us stayed in a city-view twin (two semi-double beds, 28 m²). Our elementary-school children shared beds with us at no extra charge. The room is compact, but the interior felt high quality.

What bothered us was that the toilet and bathtub are in the same space. It was a little inconvenient when bathing with the children and for the grandparents.

On the 18th floor there is a lounge (7:00–21:00) only for guests staying on the club floor. Our rooms were not on the club floor, so we did not use it.

Hyatt Regency Naha breakfast: JPY 2,860 buffet for adults

Breakfast is the buffet on the 2nd floor (sakurazaka). The prices and hours posted in the hotel were as follows (July 2025).

AdultsJPY 2,860
Children (6–12)JPY 1,430
Children (4–5)Free, up to one per adult
3 and underFree
Hours7:00–10:00 (the notice said it may be crowded from 8:30 to 9:30)

Along with smoked salmon, prosciutto and cheese, there were eggs Benedict and French toast. Egg dishes are cooked to order at a live station. Our favorite was the smoothies — three kinds, changing daily.

There was so much that we could not try everything in two days.

Hyatt Regency Naha pool: free swimsuits and floats to borrow

At the pool we could borrow swimsuits, goggles, floats and towels for free. You can go empty-handed, and there is no need to wash swimsuits afterwards. On check-out day we still played in the pool until the end.

What we remember most is that the grandparents, who usually never go in a pool, said “Well then, let’s go in.” At the time the grandmother had bad knees and found walking hard. But in the pool she could walk without pain and had a lovely time with her grandchildren.

Hyatt Regency Naha parking: full, so we used a nearby lot at JPY 1,100 for 24 hours

If you are driving a rental car, this is the one thing to watch. There is a multi-level car park in front of the hotel (JPY 1,500 per night for guests), but it is first come, first served, and it was full when we arrived. The hotel’s information (updated May 2026) also says that when it is full, or for large vehicles, guests are directed to nearby coin parking. At check-in we were given a map and price list of ten coin parking lots nearby. We parked at one that charged JPY 1,100 for 24 hours.

When we arrived, everyone got out at the drop-off area and I went alone to park the car. When going out, everyone waited in the lobby while I fetched the car, and they got in at the drop-off area. The driver walks there and back every time.

At Hotel AlaCOOJU Okinawa, where we stayed first, we could park at the hotel (JPY 1,500 per night). We compare the two hotels here:

Borrowing a wheelchair at Hyatt Regency Naha — even for Kokusai-dori

For the grandmother, we asked at the front desk and borrowed a wheelchair from the lobby. What we really appreciated was being allowed to use it outside the hotel. We took it to Kokusai-dori, to an izakaya in the evening, and to Okinawa World the next day.

The grandmother can walk. But with a wheelchair she could save her energy. It was also heartwarming to see the grandchildren enjoying pushing it.

This is how they handled it during our stay in July 2025. Check with the hotel before booking whether you can take a wheelchair outside.

Hyatt Regency Naha location: close to Kokusai-dori and Makishi Station

It is in central Naha, near Kokusai-dori, and walkable from Makishi Station on the monorail. Check-out was at 11:00.

On the day we moved to the Hyatt, we stopped at Sefa-utaki in southern Okinawa and Tamaya Soba (main shop) before checking in, and went to an izakaya (Okinawa Izakaya Sun) in the evening. The next day was Okinawa World. Our day-by-day itinerary is in our travel log.
