In February 2023, we stayed three nights at AoAwo Naruto Resort in Naruto, Tokushima. There were five of us across three generations: my parents (the children’s grandparents), me, and our two elementary-school children.

My wife couldn’t get time off work, so she stayed home this time. We both work, and it is hard for the two of us to take time off together. But when only my own days off have to fit, I can pick a cheaper season. We stayed in the low season at a hotel that gets much more expensive during the summer holidays.

At AoAwo Naruto Resort (five people across three generations, 1 room), for the regular plans without the lounge, we haven’t decided which site is cheapest with breakfast for 12/8 and 12/11: we checked the sites on different days, and the order could also change depending on the children’s breakfast fee. For 3/24 and 3/27, no site could be booked (these dates fall within the hotel’s full closure period). (Prices checked in October 2026) Go to the booking site price comparison (tables)

AoAwo Naruto Resort review with kids and grandparents: three nights, five people, three generations

For a three-generation trip, the best thing was that we could spend the whole day inside the hotel.

What we liked

  • Lunch and cake at the JTB Lounge meant we could spend the whole day inside the hotel
  • The grandparents and the children did sea bream fishing and wakame (seaweed) harvesting together
  • The sea bream my mother caught was served as sashimi on a boat-shaped platter at dinner that day (for a fee)
  • The beach is right in front of the hotel, and we could play on the sand even in February

Things to know

  • Prices go up a lot during the summer holidays. We went in February
  • We did the sea bream fishing and wakame harvesting on a plan that came with the JTB Passport
  • Our first night was on a plan without dinner, so dinner was udon at the lounge

It is a hotel we want to go back to. Next time, I want my wife to come with us.

AoAwo Naruto Resort prices and meal plans

In October 2026, we checked seven sets of dates from December to March on seven booking sites, for five people across three generations (3 adults and children aged 12 and 10), the Japanese Deluxe room we stayed in (or, for dates where it didn’t show up, the cheapest room for five), and 2 nights. If you want dinner included like we did, the options were Rakuten Travel, JTB, Jalan and Ikyu (Japanese booking sites). Expedia only had plans with breakfast.

The tables below compare regular plans without the lounge (with breakfast, and with dinner and breakfast). Plans that include the lounge, like the JTB Passport Plus we added from the second night (with lunch, cake and activities at the JTB Lounge), are not compared in the tables.

According to the hotel’s official notice, AoAwo Naruto Resort will be fully closed from January 5 to April 30, 2027 for renovation work (the closure may be extended depending on how the work progresses). The 3/24 and 3/27 dates in the tables above fall within this closure. The hotel is scheduled to reopen in May 2027.

A baby cot (for under 1 year old) is JPY 1,100 per day and an extra bed is JPY 3,300 per day. Both are limited in number and need to be requested in advance. When we stayed in February 2023, both of our children were in elementary school.

AoAwo Naruto Resort JTB Lounge: lunch, cake and the evening bar with the JTB Passport

Our plan from the second night came with the “JTB Passport,” which let us use the JTB Lounge inside the hotel.

We chose AoAwo because we had so much fun at the JTB Lounge at Renaissance Okinawa Resort in Okinawa. AoAwo is in the same hotel group as the Renaissance.

We could have lunch there, and in the evening the cake was all-you-can-eat. We didn’t need to leave the hotel for anything.

JTB Passport Plus benefits (from the brochure when we stayed)

  • During your stay (from 2:00 p.m. after check-in until 12:00 noon on check-out day), all-you-can-eat cake and all-you-can-drink drinks at the JTB Lounge
  • Free-flow soft drinks for elementary-school children at dinner
  • Some beach and hotel activities and kids’ programs are free or discounted
  • Lunch once per night at the terrace café “Oge” (a beef curry set, or, depending on the day, Sanuki udon or Tokushima ramen)
  • Check-in at 2:00 p.m., check-out at 12:00 noon

Benefits change by season

What the plan includes changes by season. When you book, check the plan description at that time.

Lounge lunch: Sanuki udon, Tokushima ramen and beef curry

Lunch was a set of Sanuki udon, Tokushima ramen or beef curry. According to the brochure, Sanuki udon is on the menu on odd-numbered days and Tokushima ramen on even-numbered days.

We could also have one free drink at the bar, once.

Today’s JTB Lounge plans come in two types

When I looked at JTB’s plan descriptions in October 2026, there were two types of plans that include the JTB Lounge. With the “JTB Pass” (standard), sweets, coffee and soft drinks are free during your stay. The “JTB Passport Plus” adds all-you-can-drink alcohol such as beer and wine for adults (age 20 and over), plus lunch at the terrace café “Oge” (once per night) and more.

My father has become weaker with alcohol, so to keep him from drinking too much, we generally don’t pay extra for all-you-can-drink. If it comes with the plan, that’s fine. For three generations, all-you-can-eat desserts like cake are something the grandparents and grandchildren can all enjoy together.

The JTB Passport depends on how you use it: perfect if you stay at the hotel

When I checked JTB’s website in October 2026, plans with the JTB Passport Plus were still available. For a three-generation trip, I’d like to use this plan again next time.

When we went, this plan was perfect for us. We didn’t go far and used every benefit, both the lounge and the activities. But if you try to use every benefit, it becomes harder to go far.

Next time, I think it could also be good to book just the room on a site like Agoda and use a rental car to eat out and sightsee. We haven’t tried that at this hotel yet, but at Lequ Okinawa Chatan, on our second stay we chose a twin room without a pool, went out, and enjoyed it plenty.

Things to do at AoAwo Naruto Resort: sea bream fishing and wakame harvesting

Sea bream fishing and wakame harvesting were both JTB Passport activities. The children and the grandparents could enjoy the same things together, which was great for three generations.

Sea bream fishing: the fish my mother caught became our dinner sashimi platter

You can fish for sea bream in a fish pen on the beach. The sea bream my mother caught was a really fine one.

The sea bream we caught became a dinner platter

We had this sea bream prepared for a fee and served as sashimi on a boat-shaped platter at dinner on our second night. As I remember, the fee was about JPY 3,000.

Because we could eat the fish we caught ourselves at dinner, the children and the grandparents enjoyed it together.

Wakame harvesting: out to sea in a small boat, then eating it on the beach terrace

How wakame harvesting works

  1. Put on rain gear and
    a life jacket
  2. Go out in a small boat
    and pull up the wakame
  3. The staff boil

  4. Eat it right away

AoAwo Naruto Resort dinner: different every night of our three

With this plan, we could choose the restaurant for dinner. The brochure listed four: a buffet (“Irodori”), Japanese cuisine (“Naruto”), French kaiseki (“Four Seasons”) and a charcoal grill (“Umikaze”).

We skipped the buffet and chose Japanese cuisine and Four Seasons. We were able to book both restaurants.

NightDinner
Night 1Udon at the JTB Lounge (our plan didn’t include dinner)
Night 2A Japanese course. The sea bream my mother caught was served as a sashimi platter (as I remember, the preparation fee was about JPY 3,000)
Night 3French kaiseki at the hotel restaurant “Four Seasons” (spiny lobster and more)

AoAwo Naruto Resort rooms: an ocean-view Japanese Deluxe room

Our room was a Japanese Deluxe (non-smoking) in the Main Tower, with an ocean view. Futons were laid out on the tatami, and all five of us shared one room.

According to the brochure, it is a 10-tatami-mat Japanese room with a 6-mat anteroom and a sitting area by the window (hiroen), for 4 to 8 people.

The hotel has 208 rooms in a building built in 1991. There is also an open-air bath with natural hot spring water (sodium chloride and hydrogen carbonate springs) (from JTB’s brochure).

The beach in front: we played on the sand even in February

We went in winter, but the beach is right in front of the hotel, so we could play on the sand. The sunrise and the sunset were beautiful, too.
