Cosmos Hotel Taipei review: a family hotel connected to Taipei Main Station
Worth booking for a family of four and for six people across three generations
Connected to Taipei Main Station × Japanese-speaking staff × three generations, 3 nights, two rooms with breakfast for JPY 145,672 (about JPY 8,100 per person per night)
In August 2025 we stayed in one room as a family of four with two elementary-school children; in July 2026 we came back with my wife’s parents as well, six of us in two rooms. After two stays, we would book it again for either group size.
The full report is below; if you are already considering it, you can check current prices first.

This is a photo-heavy family review of Cosmos Hotel Taipei, where we stayed in August 2025 as a family of four with elementary-school children, and in July 2026 as six people across three generations, including my wife’s parents.
What this hotel does best
Its location connected to Taipei Main Station, staff who speak Japanese, and a balanced price. Together they keep the stress of getting around to a minimum — that is its biggest strength.
The location and the Japanese-speaking staff were reassuring, though the building is older. For families who put a station location and saving time first, we found the overall satisfaction high.
Our two stays

Cosmos Hotel Taipei reviews: pros and cons
This is a hotel review based on two stays: one as a family of four and one as six people across three generations.
Pros
- Connected to Taipei Main Station
- Easy communication, including in Japanese
- Clean, and good for the price
Cons
- Shampoo and body wash come in the same bottle (conditioner is in a separate bottle; my wife brought her own shampoo)
- No pajamas
Instead of pajamas
On our July 2026 stay, we found something to use as sleepwear provided for each person. You do not have to bring pajamas. Bathrobes are also provided for everyone.
Overall, our family was satisfied. Reviews we read on several booking sites were generally good too.

Hotel near Taipei Main Station: location and access
Underground passages and Exit M3: no rain, no traffic lights
Underground passages connect the hotel area to the MRT, the Airport MRT and regular trains. From Exit M3 of the underground passage you can get to the hotel without waiting at traffic lights or getting wet, which keeps walking easy for children.
Why the station access and Japanese-speaking staff felt reassuring
With a suitcase, you can avoid steps by taking the escalator at Exit M3, the closest exit. During our stays, staff who speak Japanese were always at the desk (they wear a Japanese flag badge). When an earthquake alert came in on our iPhones, they immediately told us it was fine — just an alert.
Family review: quiet rooms and what to check
In 2025 the four of us stayed on the 14th floor in a room with two double beds, looking down on Taipei Main Station. We heard no noise from inside or outside the hotel and slept well. This is the view from our room.

Price and value: what we paid and where to book
Where is it cheapest to book? (rough guide for a family of four, one night)
Window, bed layout and breakfast are hard to change after booking, so check availability and conditions before you book.
| Booking site | Family of 4, 1 night (rough) | Perks and best for |
|---|---|---|
| Agoda | from about JPY 12,000 | Points back, flexible cancellation. Best for last-minute bookings and flexible dates |
| Expedia | from about JPY 13,000 | Discounts when booked with flights. Best for booking flights and hotel together |
| Rakuten Travel | from about JPY 15,000 | 1% Rakuten points. Best for Japanese users of Rakuten services |
| JTB / HIS | from about JPY 17,000 | Phone support. Best for a first trip abroad and peace of mind |
The amounts and perks in this table are rough figures from memory of when I checked in 2025, not quotes. Rakuten Travel, JTB and HIS are Japanese booking services; JTB’s website is in Japanese only.
| What | Price |
|---|---|
| Family of 4, 1 room, 3 nights, no breakfast (August 2025) | JPY 72,380 |
| 6 people, 2 rooms, 3 nights, breakfast included (July 2026) | JPY 145,672 |
| Agoda search on September 27, 2026: 1 night on Wednesday, November 18, 2 adults + 2 children (12 and 9), 1 room | Lowest price shown: JPY 27,643 |
For our August 2025 trip, Expedia was the cheapest of the sites I compared on the day I booked, so I booked there. Which site is cheaper changes with the dates, so the surest way is to check both before deciding.

For the price, the combination of station access and Japanese-speaking staff made it good value. Triple and quad rooms keep the total cost stable.
Taoyuan Airport to Cosmos Hotel Taipei: exits, airport access and map
Using Taipei Main Station’s underground network, you can connect from the Airport MRT, the MRT and regular trains without crossing streets. In 2025 our children walked and we had one suitcase, and it was manageable.
Taoyuan Airport to the hotel (Airport MRT)
- From Taoyuan Airport
Airport MRT to Taipei Main Station - Through the station’s underground passage
to Exit M3 - Escalator at Exit M3
to the hotel
From Taipei Main Station: Exit M3
Follow the station signs to M3, the closest exit. The route is mostly indoors and smooth even with suitcases. At peak times people move fast, so holding hands with children is safer.
Taoyuan Airport to the hotel: Airport MRT, bus, taxi or transfer
The Airport MRT gives the best balance of punctuality and price.
If you arrive while trains are running, Taipei Main Station to the airport is NT$160 per person one way. The express train takes 35 minutes (to Terminal 1) and the commuter train 50 minutes, and traffic hardly affects it. For a family of four, that is up to NT$640 if everyone pays the adult fare. These are train times; you still walk through the station to Exit M3.
Children aged 6–11 get a 20% discount (NT$128) if you ask for a child single-journey ticket at the station counter, which would bring our family (children aged 12 and 9) to NT$608. Children under 6 ride free with an adult. Buying at the ticket machines or using an IC card the usual way charges everyone NT$160 (source: Taoyuan Metro ticket information). If the counter is crowded, the saving is only NT$32 per child, so the ticket machine may be the better choice.
Airport taxis are roughly NT$1,200–1,500 per car (metered, tolls extra, 24 hours) and take about 35–60 minutes depending on the time of day and traffic.
In short: the MRT is far cheaper and more predictable. But on a late-night arrival or a day with lots of luggage, a taxi or transfer to save your energy is the realistic choice.
Children’s fares
If you use the ticket machine or an IC card as usual, children also pay NT$160. The child discount only applies when you ask at the counter.
In yen, NT$160 is roughly JPY 800 per person, depending on the exchange rate.
Arriving late at night: we were glad we booked a transfer
On our July 2026 trip with six people, we landed at Taoyuan late at night and reached the hotel close to 2 a.m. We had booked a van transfer on KKday in advance (JPY 6,407), and it was the right call. Using a ride-hailing app at the airport is another option, but late at night, with six people and three suitcases, not having to worry at the airport about whether a car would come or whether the luggage would fit was worth a lot.
If you arrive in the daytime with fewer people and less luggage, the Airport MRT is enough. Taipei Main Station connects to the hotel through underground passages.

Arriving at Songshan Airport: one transfer to Taipei Main Station
Songshan Airport station is only on the Wenhu line, so you need one transfer to reach Taipei Main Station: change at Zhongxiao Fuxing or Daan to the Bannan line or the Tamsui-Xinyi line (Taipei Metro’s official guide shows NT$25 and about 15 minutes of riding). We have not used Songshan Airport.
We used Taoyuan Airport, where the Airport MRT express train goes to Taipei Main Station without a transfer, and the station connects to the hotel through underground passages. Saving the elevator locations in a map app beforehand makes it easier not to get lost.
Late-night arrivals and early departures: rest stops and convenience stores
Before and after check-in you can rest in the lobby, and there is a convenience store two doors away for snacks and drinks. When trains are not running, take a taxi.
Hotel name: 天成大飯店 / Cosmos Hotel Taipei
The name differs between booking sites, but it is the same hotel.
| English | Cosmos Hotel Taipei |
| Chinese (Traditional) | 天成大飯店 |
| Japanese | コスモスホテル台北 |
At Taipei Main Station and with local taxi drivers, 天成大飯店 is the name that works. The Japanese name sometimes does not.

Check the hotel’s official site for the latest contact details. For requests, it helps to send your arrival time, number of people and children’s ages together.

Check-in, check-out and luggage storage: making it easier with kids
The key is less waiting and keeping your hands free. Being one train ride from the airport, with no transfer, helps most here. In 2025, with check-out at 12:00, we chose Scoot TR870 (Taoyuan to Tokyo Narita, departing 15:30) as the flight that let us reach the airport two hours early.
Check-in and check-out: times, deposit and payment
Show your passport and choose how to pay.
Deposit and payment
We booked and prepaid on Expedia, so there was no deposit and nothing to pay at the hotel.
Some rate plans or booking sites mention a deposit (for example TWD 1,000 per night). Check your booking conditions before check-in.
Luggage storage after check-out and large suitcases
Storage on the day of check-out felt flexible. Take a photo of your claim tag and plan your pickup time back from your flight.

- After check-out
left our bags at the hotel and went out - 12:00

Early check-in and late check-out: how to ask
It depends on availability, so email the hotel with your preferred time, number of people and room type. If it is not possible, you can store your luggage and spend time around the station.
Language: communicating in Japanese and English
Staff wearing Japanese flag badges were always at the front desk, and we could communicate in Japanese, which was reassuring. When a Taiwanese earthquake alert came in on our iPhones during the trip, we could ask about it straight away and they handled it well. Our experience does not tell you the level of spoken English at the desk.
Airport transfers: booking and what to do if you get no reply
We have never asked the hotel for an airport transfer. For our 2026 late-night arrival, we booked a van in advance on KKday (see “Arriving late at night” above).
Family rooms at Cosmos Hotel Taipei: triple, quad and superior twin
The best choice depends on your family and how you sleep, so check bed width, number of beds and whether there is a window first.
Family quad and family triple rooms: space and bed layout
A quad room has more room for luggage and moving around; a triple keeps the total cost down and sleeping arrangements simple. We stayed in a family quad room with two double beds and were happy with it.
In July 2026, the six of us booked two rooms, each with one semi-double and one single bed, and split into groups of three.
Room split for six people across three generations (two adjacent rooms)
- Grandparents + our daughter
1 semi-double + 1 single - My wife and I + our son
1 semi-double + 1 single
Three nights, breakfast included, two rooms: JPY 145,672, about JPY 8,100 per person per night.
Why two rooms were enough
Being six people did not mean we needed a large room. Our children were in their first year of junior high school (in Japan) and in fifth grade. One bed is too narrow to share with a junior-high student, but three people in a room with one semi-double and one single bed worked for us.
Splitting into two rooms of two adults and one child meant we did not have to look for a suite or a large room. This depended on our daughter, who is small and does not move around much in her sleep, sharing a room with her grandparents. That was the decision that made the stay good value for us. “Semi-double” is how the bed was described; check the actual bed width before choosing the same arrangement.
Our 2025 room (family quad, two double beds)

Superior twin, deluxe triple and junior suite: the differences
Superior is the standard comfortable room, the deluxe types add space and amenities, and the junior suite divides the space. But if the bed size does not change, we think the cheaper room is enough.
Connecting rooms: are they available?
When the six of us stayed in July 2026, I asked the front desk about connecting rooms.
What the front desk said
The answer was that the hotel does not have connecting rooms. Instead of hoping for one, request rooms next to each other.
We were given two adjacent rooms.
Windowless rooms: how to spot them
Look for “No window” or “Inside room” in the room name. They can be good for quiet but avoid them if you want daylight. Our rooms on both trips — the 14th floor in 2025 and the 7th floor in 2026 — had windows and were quiet.
Children sharing beds, cribs and children’s rates
Prices change with children’s ages and whether breakfast is included; booking sites show the children’s price once you enter the number of children and their ages. When I checked Agoda’s property policy on September 27, 2026, I could not find an age up to which children share a bed for free, and extra beds were listed as not available.

What’s in the room and what isn’t
Since January 1, 2025, Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment rules say hotels should not hand out items such as toothbrushes, combs and razors on their own initiative (it is not a total ban). Cosmos Hotel Taipei stopped providing them earlier, on September 1, 2024.
Bring your own toothbrush and razor
Toothbrushes, toothpaste and razors are not provided. You need to bring your own.
In the room
- Bathrobes (one per person)
- Bathtub (with handrail)
- TOTO bidet toilet
- Hair dryer (strong airflow)
- Capsule coffee machine
- One bottle of drinking water per person
- Towels
Not in the room
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, comb
- Pajamas (use the bathrobe)
If you want to see each item with photos — including how luggage storage works and which coffee capsules are provided — we have a separate page.
Breakfast at Cosmos Hotel Taipei: hours, price and what’s on the buffet
In August 2025 the four of us did not add breakfast, because we wanted to eat out.
When we came back in July 2026 with my wife’s parents, we chose a plan with breakfast. With three generations, we felt breakfast is worth adding.
Breakfast hours are 7:00–10:00 Monday to Friday, and 6:30–10:00 on Saturday and Sunday.
Price difference for the breakfast plan
Compared with the room-only plan, the difference was about JPY 2,000 per person for three nights, or about JPY 670 per breakfast.

The buffet had both Taiwanese and Western choices: a salad bar, congee, noodles, eggs from a live cooking station, bread, cereal and fruit. Even with three generations who like different things, nobody had to settle for something they did not want.
Every item on the buffet as labeled, what the six of us actually ate, whether three nights got repetitive, and how crowded it was (and whether we could get seats for six) are on a separate page with photos.
Without breakfast: eating near the hotel
On the mornings without hotel breakfast, we had 7-Eleven rice balls and headed out by train.
Eating out with kids: ordering tips
Mild, boneless dishes that are easy to share, such as noodles and dim sum, are a safe choice. If you only eat your favorite foods in Taipei, it is easy to run short of vegetables, so if you choose the breakfast buffet, make the most of the vegetables.
The café in the hotel: a drink break
There is a nice café on the first floor. It also sells small goods, and we bought a drink holder there. It was open until 22:00 in the evening.
Welcome drink vouchers
At check-in the front desk gave us a welcome drink voucher for each person, and the kids exchanged theirs for passion fruit shaved ice. The voucher said it could not be exchanged for alcohol, but any other drink in the café was fine — a nice touch.

Food near the hotel: breakfast spots, egg tarts and late-night snacks
Through the underground mall you can avoid the rain, and there are more restaurants than you can choose from. For busy places, takeaway saves time.
Fu Hang Soy Milk (阜杭豆漿)
The famous breakfast spot Fu Hang Soy Milk (阜杭豆漿) is a 12-minute walk.

Egg tarts
A well-known egg tart bakery is an 8-minute walk.

Deciding whether to skip breakfast: eating out and sleep
Taipei Main Station has a huge number of places to eat inside and around it, and eating out is part of daily life. We wanted to enjoy eating out, and the hotel breakfast for adults was NT$450 at the time, so in 2025 we did not add it.
Facilities: lounge, gym and sauna
There is a lounge, a gym and a sauna on the 14th floor. We did not check whether there is a coin laundry or a smoking area.

Gym and sauna: ages 12 and up
The gym and sauna can be used from age 12, so our son tried a gym for the first time. (In Japan, many gyms do not allow children.)

Sauna

Currency exchange and items to borrow (plug adapters)
We exchanged Japanese yen at a bank in the arrivals hall at Taoyuan Airport. We did not need to borrow anything from the hotel. In Taiwan, our Japanese plugs fit the outlets.
Pool or large bath?
It is not a resort hotel, so there is no pool or large communal bath.
Around the hotel: convenience stores, supermarket and night markets
Shopping, food and things to do are all within walking distance, and the underground network reduces the weather risk.
Nearest supermarket, convenience store and drugstore
There is a 7-Eleven two doors away, which is handy. It had plenty of rice balls, just like in Japan.

The nearest large supermarket is an 11-minute walk.

ATM in the supermarket
The supermarket has a bank ATM where I could take a cash advance abroad with my JCB card, which helps if you run short of cash. With one-time repayment the interest was 1.25%, which worked out cheaper than exchanging Japanese yen, so next time I plan to bring less yen.

Drinks, snacks and medicine are easy to find in the station and the underground mall. Late-night hours did not seem common: most shops in the station’s underground area were closing from around 9 p.m.
Getting to Ningxia and Raohe night markets
Ningxia Night Market
Ningxia Night Market is about a 20-minute walk — a good distance on your first day to soak up Taipei. We walked there on our first evening, stopping for egg tarts and at 50 Lan (a drink chain) on the way. On the way back, the oyster omelet stall had a one-hour wait for both eating in and takeaway, so we took it away, walked back and ate it at the hotel while it was still warm.

From Jiufen to Raohe Night Market and Xiao Shanghai
We took a direct bus from Jiufen to Raohe Night Market (on the evening return it had plenty of empty seats), then a taxi to Xiao Shanghai, a well-known soup dumpling restaurant, and a bus back to the hotel. Lots of buses go to Taipei Main Station and they are easy to understand, so returning by bus is not difficult.

Rainy days: indoor options
We had good weather, but the underground mall at Taipei Main Station was too big for us to see all of it. On a rainy day, it would be our first choice.
Elevators and avoiding steps
On our 2025 stay with one suitcase we traveled light, but there are three elevators and they came quickly. Heading to the station, Exit M3 has an escalator, which is very convenient. Right by Exit M3 there is a drink chain shop that we loved.

Walking back at night
We stuck to busy main streets. Coming back from Shilin Night Market close to midnight on our third night, we did not feel uneasy around Taipei Main Station. Depending on the walking distance, we also took taxis.
Booking tips: Agoda or Expedia
We have booked family trips for many years, and lately we find Agoda and Expedia especially cheap, particularly for trips abroad.
Searching on Expedia: avoiding windowless rooms and securing a family quad
For our August 2025 trip, Expedia was the cheapest when I compared sites at booking time, so I booked there. In 2025 the four of us booked non-smoking, without breakfast and without a transfer. In 2026, with six people, we booked two rooms with breakfast and switched to a KKday van from the airport.
There have been reports of booking problems with booking sites, but in our experience, exchanging messages with the hotel after booking mostly avoids issues.
Compared with Rakuten Travel, JTB and HIS (Japanese booking sites)
There may be cheaper deals somewhere, but when I — someone who searches more than most people — checked, Agoda and Expedia were overwhelmingly cheaper. Points are a small bonus; the price gap felt large. I have checked JTB and Rakuten several times too, but I can hardly remember them being cheaper, so these days I rarely search them.
Flight + hotel packages
Booking flights and hotel together tends to be a little cheaper, so when we book on Agoda or Expedia we book flight + hotel at the same time.
Expedia runs a promotion of “up to one free night when you book flight + hotel together.” When you search flight + hotel, some hotels show a badge such as “1 night free” or a discount. When I searched a 3-night Tokyo–Taipei package on September 18, 2026, Cosmos Hotel Taipei also showed “1 night free” (on the Japanese Expedia site).
Note the word “up to.” Not every hotel gets it, and the same hotel can lose it when you change the dates. Always check the amount on the final screen.
Cancellation policy, prepayment and refunds
Always take a screenshot at booking of the date until which you can cancel for free. Also expect a delay before refunds appear on your card statement.
Sample request email: high floor, quiet room, crib
Put the number of people, ages, arrival time and your requests into English with Google Translate, and that is enough. You can translate the hotel’s reply too — it is a convenient time to travel.
Cosmos Hotel Taipei FAQ: toilets, Wi-Fi, luggage, airport transfer and language
Can you flush toilet paper?
At Cosmos Hotel Taipei we could flush it in the guest rooms. Some restaurants and other places did not allow it. Check the sign in each toilet, and tell children about this rule.
Is the Wi-Fi reliable?
We entered the network name and password, and it never gave us trouble.
How late can you leave luggage after check-out?
Luggage storage was flexible on the day of check-out. Within the same day, it seemed to be no problem.
Is there an airport transfer, and how much?
We did not use the hotel’s transfer. The hotel’s airport transfer must be booked at least two days ahead (official site), and Agoda’s property information listed it at NT$2,000 (checked September 2026). In 2025 the four of us took the Airport MRT, and in 2026 the six of us took a KKday van (JPY 6,407). For a daytime arrival, the train, where you choose your own departure time, was enough.
How much Japanese or English do the staff speak?
Basic requests were easy to get across in Japanese. For details, adding English in writing is safer.
Summary: Cosmos Hotel Taipei for a family trip
As this review shows, Cosmos Hotel Taipei combines four things: station access, Japanese-speaking staff, price, and suitability for families with children. On our three-generation stay, my in-laws said, “Tours always keep us busy, but traveling on our own lets us take it easy.” They had no complaints about the rooms, including the bed height.
Especially recommended if you:
- are visiting Taipei for the first time and want easy transport
- are traveling with children of elementary-school age or younger
- want good value (family of four, one room, three nights: JPY 72,380 without breakfast)
- are traveling with grandparents (two rooms with two beds each, three people per room)
- feel reassured when Japanese is spoken
It tends to fill up during holidays, summer vacation and Lunar New Year.
